About
There was a time I had absolutely no interest in money.
I wanted to cure cancer. I wanted to help the underdog. I wanted world peace.
Money didn’t enter into my idealistic dreaming. I avoided the subject completely, believing it would all work out because I was smart and resourceful — somehow I’d have enough to live the life I envisioned for myself, and make a difference in the world.
Money was boring—a matter for stuffy corporate types.
So instead, I focused on my education and career, got married, and enjoyed life.
Then everything changed. My husband and I divorced. Around the same time I left the career I’d spent the last 15 years building, and went back to school to pursue a lifelong interest in psychology.
And it hit me: I had no retirement plan, no health insurance, no job, and I was on my own. I realized that financial independence is the core of women’s independence writ large.
At the end of the day, we’re responsible for our own financial security.
I set out to take better care of my own finances and to learn more about the strange world of money.
When I began working as a counselor and therapist I saw that other women were also struggling with money in a big way. But the subject was taboo. I noticed that clients found it easier to talk openly about their sex lives than to talk about their finances!
That’s when I got really curious about this thing we call money—this social agreement that we all live and die by.
As I delved deeper, I began to see that money permeates everything we do and creeps into our relationships when we least expect it.
I realized…
- It isn’t possible to avoid money.
- It isn’t responsible to avoid money.
- We can’t make a difference in the world if we don’t take care of our money and provide for our own basic needs.
We need a healthy, responsible relationship with money in order to take care of ourselves first. Only then do we have the freedom to pursue our personal dreams and impact the world in a positive way.
As a money coach, I work one-on-one with women who are ready to change their relationship with money in order to create the life they want while also contributing to making the world a better place for us all. I customize our work together based on each client’s needs, and all sessions take place remotely over Skype.
I’ve been doing this work for the past six years and still find it as fascinating as when I started.
I’m able to combine my financial counselor certification, which I received in 2010 from the Financial Recovery Institute, with my 17 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, and my history as a research scientist in the field of immunology and molecular biology never hurts! With a strong background in research and medicine I am able to follow the exciting studies being done on the human brain, and help my clients apply these new discoveries to improve their money choices and behaviors.
I offer a seven-step, comprehensive program that includes both the technical and the emotional aspects of getting right with your money. The technical involves helping you find and use the right tools so you know your numbers and can use that information to plan for that beach vacation, non-profit organization, or dream home in the country.
The emotional part involves drawing on my expertise as a counselor to help you work through emotional blocks, limiting beliefs, and negative patterns that hold you back from a healthy relationship with money.
The women I work with don’t necessarily want to be rich and famous.
They are more interested in the meaning and impact of their lives than the accoutrements that come with it. It’s incredibly rewarding for me to see my clients progress through their own money journey, attain more and more control and confidence about their money decisions, and turn those wishes and dreams into reality.
My secret hope is that in helping women become confident and masterful with money we can work together to create a new, more inclusive and sustainable economy. The way I see it, we’ve gone a little off-track as a society: we need to start focusing on health and abundance for all living creatures, and the preservation of our beautiful earth.
But don’t worry, we’ll start with you!
You have more abundance to harness than you realize — and when you start to shift your thinking and actions around money new possibilities will open up for you, including some you never saw coming!
As for me…
Once I got my money act together I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream to move to the country. I now live my ideal life on a 10-acre farm in the beautiful state of Colorado, USA.
Whatever your dream life looks like, money will be a key part of making it happen — and I can help you get there.
